Counterfeit Banknote Alert, Limerick & Surrounding Areas

According to a report published today by The Limerick Leader, "Gardai are warning businesses of an increase in the number of counterfeit notes which have been detected across Limerick in recent days."

"Four separate complaints have been received over the past week following the discovery of fake €50 and €20 notes by several retailers."

“In fairness, the staff were very observant as in each case the notes were detected and no loss took place but it’s very important that these dud notes are reported to gardai as it gives me the chance to inform other business people and caution them to be more aware,” said divisional crime prevention officer, Sgt Ber Leetch.

"According to Gardai, the counterfeit notes detected over the past week were tendered at a variety of different premises including shops, petrol stations and takeaways."

Money Point does not recommend that business owners rely solely on counterfeit pens or ultraviolet lights as a means of protecting their business from counterfeit banknotes, as these devices can be easily fooled by good quality counterfeits.
